What were video games meant to do? That is a question I ask to myself. Most video games, as you probably know, are meant for entertainment. To play with family and friends. To just forget about troubles. But it turns out that some are made for a variety of purposes- to inform, persuade, or stimulate. There also serious video games that aim to educate and train the user. These types of video games tend to promote education, science, social change, health care, or even the military. By playing such games you can learn a reallife lesson. So, one should know that every video game has its own purpose. However, gathering information on the purpose of video games will help you to know more about online video games and its additional benefits. Some studies have shown certain video games can improve hand–eye coordination, problem-solving skills, and the mind’s ability to process information.
Videos games can sometimes be good. They can help you with everyday life. Sometimes they just help you relax from the stress of a test. Sometimes it’s just good to play with family. Sometimes you just want to get away from life troubles. You just want to sit down to take it off your mind. Or maybe you just achieved something spectacular, and you’re planning a party. You can play video games with your friends and family. It can also make you smarter. A new study out in the week, Nov. 10th, 2014, in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences demonstrates for the first time that people who played action games like “Call of Duty” and “Unreal Tournament 2004” showed greater capacity to learn than those who played non-action games. Playing video games can change the brain regions responsible for attention and visuospatial skills and make them more efficient.
Why are video games bad? Most people know one reason. It can destroy how your mind works. It’s hard to get enough active play and exercise if you’re always inside playing video games. And without enough exercise, kids can become overweight. Really overdoing video games also could affect other important stuff, like friendships and how well a kid does in school. And kids who play violent video games might act more aggressively. People can get hurt because of these people. They can start to bully others. They can even start becoming very violent with a not very wise choice of language. The longer that individuals are exposed to violent video games, the more likely they are to have aggressive behaviors, thoughts, and feelings.
There are many examples of why video games are good, and bad. One of the good examples involve Mario Kart. Two boys were riding in a car with their Grandma. (Remember, this really happened). Their Grandma was driving, one of the boys was sitting next to her, and the other in the back. Suddenly the Grandma bonked her head on the steering wheel and became unconscious. The boy in the back started screaming because the car started swerving back and forth, nearly missing the other cars. The other boy stayed calm, though. He turned the wheel all the way to the right, like he would in Mario Kart. This made the car pull over, to avoid their car from hitting any others. The police would’ve had to deal with a car crash, but this boy saved them. All because he played video games. This happened to many people who played shooting video games for hours, nonstop. Even though this is not a real scenario, it is what happens to many people that are not Some angelic kid could one day start playing a shooting game. In a couple of months, he/she could start slipping his grades. In another couple of months, he/she could start being the bully of the school. In another year, he/she could start being violent, not in a bully type of way. It could go on and on. Remember, this is not a real scenario, but it could happen. To anyone, who is not careful with violent video games. There are many different opinions in the topic, Are Video Games Good for Children? Some people say it is bad because too many hours of it can lead to violence and unhealthiness. Some people say it is good because some can make you smart and can change the brain regions responsible for attention and visuospatial skills and make them more efficient. Most people though, can agree that video games can be fun with family and friends, just don’t play too much!
